Grand Rapids Public Museum

In December, I went to the Grand Rapids Public Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with my sister Leah. We were actually volunteering at their Night at Your Museum event, so we got to dress up in fun costumes, and we got to visit with all of the people there for the dinner. Therefore, I got the chance to notice a few things. There were a lot of people there, both volunteers and guests, and at one point there was some water on the floor. Maintenance was called to clean it up, but they must have been busy because it took them a while to arrive.

As my sister and I walked around and got pictures with visitors we kept going back through the Brain: The World Inside Your Head exhibit they had. I found it very fascinating and insightful, and it made me think of all of the different people in my life because of all of the mention of the various stages of development. For example, they talked about how baby’s brains are basically full grown when they are born, but it needs to be stimulated. That is why it is great if children can learn new languages in their first two or three years of life. I think it educates and will continue to educate other visitors as well.

We even saw some of our high school friends there enjoying the special night in our community, and there were also a lot of young people there learning about new people and things. Many people ate dinner and made it memorable for them and their family members. gSome characters that made it memorable were Ghost Busters, Darth Vader, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Theodore Roosevelt. There were also knight battles, a dance
party, and other fun aspects that brought the community together for a night of giving, learning and serving.
